Why did the simulation put a dead cat
on my path to work this morning?
Poor thing, bleeding from its little pink ear,
the geometry all wrong. A deactivated node.
Who maintains the dead cat algorithm,
the .004% chance that I will see a dead cat
every time I leave the house? Hunched
over a little screen, generating little twisted legs.
Good money if you can get it.
And how was I programmed to be so full
of regret? It says more about the programmer.
He’s got issues, man. He does oil paintings
of overturned hearses in the rain.
He doesn’t care how much I miss my family.
Won’t finish the code for the job I want.
He probes at my borders with promo tests.
Let’s my brain glitch without a quick fix.
The cat’s gone offline, but I can still stoop
down in broad daylight and loot its sun-hot fur
for all the sadness it’s got.
After all, I need to try and get by
until they patch my kind out.
